Micro-needling Q&A: Everything you need to know

Hello! Welcome to (or back) to our beauty blog, this month we are talking all things micro-needling! Our last blog was an introduction to micro-needling; we discussed the process, what it involves and collagen production. If you haven’t already, go and read that one first and then come back to this article.

For this blog, we are going to do a well sought after Q&A, where we answer the top micro-needling questions to clear confusion, help you to understand the treatment and to know what to expect. Let’s go…

#1. Who is micro-needling for?

Microneedling is a treatment that almost anyone can benefit from, as the increase of production of collagen is beneficial to anyone even if they have different concerns. Microneedling can be effective for treating major and minor skin conditions like fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, pigmentation or, uneven texture.

#2. What are the benefits?

As mentioned above micro-needling can be beneficial for almost anyone due to its wide range of benefits. To name a few, micro needlings benefits include:

  • Fighting acne
  • Decreasing dark spots or colour patchiness on your skin also known as hyperpigmentation
  • Helps with large pores
  • Increases skin elasticity
  • Helps with sun damage
  • Improves fine lines and wrinkles
  • Rosacea reduction
  • Challenges stretch marks
  • Fewer side effects than other peel treatments

#3. How often should I do micro-needling? How many treatments will I need?

Microneedling is based on the damage and healing of your skin, therefore, it is important to safely space out your appointments. Microneedling can be done once a month or we recommend every 4-6 weeks. It may also depend on what you are trying to achieve with micro-needling is how many sessions you will need.

#4. Is it safe? Does it hurt?

Feeling nervous because of the needles? Rest assured, the treatment is relatively painless and completely safe! Your therapist will use a special numbing cream on your skin. Our therapists are professionals and will take best care of you. Additionally, prior to your appointment, we will undergo a consultation to make sure it is 100%  safe for you.

#5. What are the side effects of micro-needling?

Like all cosmetic surgeries, there is some risk and things to be mindful of. The most common side effect is skin irritation and redness. Do not be alarmed, you may experience these for a couple of days following your treatment. Please call your doctor, if you notice any of the following severe side effects:

  • Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • Infection
  • Peeling

#6. How long does it take to see results? How can I maximise my results?

It is important to know that micro-needling is not a “quick fix” treatment, it involves the growth of new skin, so results may take a couple of months. Most clients commonly see results between four-six weeks. This gives your skin enough time to heal from the small wounds, producing new collagen and elastin.

It may also depend on what you are using micro-needling for, for example, skin tightening or scarring. For minor concerns, you may see instant results but for more severe conditions it may take longer.

Here is a shortlist of things you can do to maximise your results:

  • Exfoliate a couple of days before the micro-needling – just not the night before
  • Constantly apply sunscreen before and after the appointment
  • Keep well hydrated – drink plenty of water following your appointment
  • Be gentle with your skin as much as possible

#7. Why is it a “winter treatment”?

Micro-needling is quite an intense treatment, it is creating tiny wounds on your face. Therefore, you cannot have high sun exposure following the treatment, as that will create damage. Doing micro-needling in winter is safest as sun exposure is limited!

#8. How much does it cost?

Our micro-needling costs $200 per session. We are on the more affordable (yet high end) end of the spectrum. If you book in the month of May, you can receive 10% off!! Book now time is running out…

#9. How do I look after the treatment?

You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first 3-5 days following the procedure – this is your skin’s natural response to the small injuries made. Embrace it, know that magic healing is taking place within your skin.

#10. What are the aftercare instructions?

Sunscreen is a must, ensure it is high SPF for maximum protection. Additionally, here is a list of recommended aftercare procedures:

  • Do not touch the area immediately after treatment
  • Do not participate in high impact exercise for 12 hours following the treatment
  • It is recommended that you don’t apply make-up for at least 12 hours
  • Only use water to cleanse your face for the next 48 hours, and pat dry with a clean towel.

That is all! We really hope you were able to learn something, confirm something and now maybe try something new. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate in contacting us, we would love to help you!
